Ignite your school spirit and commemorate life's special moments on the RCES Spirit Rock!

This vibrant canvas is a unique way to share positive messages, celebrate birthdays and achievements, congratulate students and staff, and promote exciting school events.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!

Rules & Guidelines:

  • ALL Sign Ups are managed via this Reservation Sign Up ONLY!

  • ​* The PTO and/or RCES are NOT responsible for painting or designing the rock.*

  • A single day reservation is for one school day (24 hours) starting at 3:30 p.m. on THE DAY PRIOR to the sign up date! This ensures the rock is painted for your *ROCK" STAR on their special day. (Example: If you sign up for August 25th, then you may paint the rock starting at 3:30 pm on August 24th; and the person that has reserved August 26th can start painting at 3:30 pm on August 25th.) Monday reservations may start painting on the Friday prior OR over the weekend.

  • Cost: $10/day/24 hrs (non-refundable) reservation fee.

  • ​Payment is due at the time of reservation. 

  • First come, first served. We cannot guarantee availability on specific dates.

  • Limit: Maximum of 2 consecutive days/student to allow everyone a chance to participate.

  • All rules in the RCES Student Handbook apply to the messages and/or pictures painted on the Spirit Rock. (NO bullying, profanity, obscenities, or derogatory language/pictures)

  • We reserve the right to paint over anything that is deemed inappropriate, and money WILL NOT BE REFUNDED! 

  • NO painting during school hours!

  • NO advertisements! (Sponsorship information is available HERE)

  • YOU are responsible for painting (the FRONT of the rock ONLY), and providing your own supplies. You must bring cardboard, a tarp, an old sheet, or a drop cloth to protect the ground the rock sits on!

  • ONLY PAINT may be used - glitter, glue, tape, stickers, vinyl, laminate, or any adhesive material or other decorative items ON or AROUND the Spirit Rock are NOT allowed.

  • We recommend using a combination of spray paint and acrylic paint, followed by a sealant.
    - You will need 3 to 4 cans of spray paint for your base coat.
    - Choose colors that are vibrant and easily visible.
    - Brands like Rustoleum OR Krylon provide better coverage and durability.
    - Acrylic paints of various colors will work well for details and hand painted designs
    - Brands like Apple Barrel or FolkArt are great options.
    - Use smaller brushes for fine lines and detailing.
    - You may want to chalk out your design before you start painting.
    - We recommend not using roll on paint or latex paint because it will take
    longer to dry.
    - A clear acrylic sealant will protect the paint from any bad weather that may occur.

  • If you aren't artistically inclined or simply don't have time to paint the rock yourself, you can hire someone to paint for you. Here's a list of local artists in alphabetical order:

    • Shaniqua Burch (803.596.1783) - Is an all-around creator/educator who enjoys painting everything while exploring different arty styles - from realistic to cartoon characters to real life portraits. Shaniqua is the owner of Colorful Vibes Studio and loves manifesting people's ideas through art. 
    • Rivie Fralick (803.570.0148) - Is an 9th grade student at BEHS. She loves to paint cartoons and realistic ANYTHING! She plans to attend a fine arts college and be successful in what she enjoys the most...ART.
    • Carol Maxwell (803.516.2342) - Is a retired teacher who loves to paint & craft. She has been creating hand painted items for over 40 years.
    • Angie Sandifer (803.682.1596) - Has been teaching art for 25 years. She teaches art at BEHS. She enjoys painting and working with clay.
    • Loralei Templeton (803.383.4056) - Enjoyed being part of the gifted arts program @ RCES for 2 years and is now an 8th-grade honors ART2 student at BEMS. She loves to paint, craft, and do all things art. 

Reservations:

  1. Click HERE to select a date and make your payment.

  2. Make a NOTE in YOUR calendar & set an alarm!  Painting may begin @ 3:30 the afternoon PRIOR to your reserved date!!! No reminders will be sent.

If you have multiple children, you can add one rock payment to your cart and then add another before checking out. 

⚠️ NO REFUNDS will be issued due to missed reservations, inclement weather, etc.⚠️

100% of your donation goes to the Richard Carroll Elementary PTO and, in turn back to RCES.
